Black

The Art of Colour

Description

Queen Victoria wore black for the rest of her life following the death of her beloved husband; Kazimir Malevich created a provocative painting entitled: The Black Square and Rembrandt used the shade to conjure the velvety darkness of night in his etching The Adoration of the Shepherds. Richard Stemp celebrates this powerful hue.
