It took the French Neoclassical painter, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres 12 years to complete this portrait of Madame Moitessier. Lizzie Perrotte takes a closer look at how Ingres combined contemporary society portraiture with elements of history painting – the academic ideal – to present Moitessier as a modern goddess of spring.
