The German-Swiss painter Hans Holbein the Younger was one of the most accomplished portrait artists of the 16th century. He quickly rose to royal favour after his arrival to England in 1526, and is best-known for his portraits of Tudor Court. Holbein's The Ambassadors at The National Gallery in London, is filled with complex symbolism. Richard Stemp explores the meaning behind this great work from the Renaissance.
